"ONE OF THE MOST CONSISTENTLY EXCELLENT DIRECTORS

A proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, Fred Sternfeld's 130+ stage productions have collectively received over 100 awards. He’s distinguished himself across all genres, including musicals, dramas, comedy, Shakespeare, and more.

As an Artistic Director, Fred served in Washington at Center Stage Theatre at the Stroum JCC of Greater Seattle (AEA), in Texas at the Jewish Community Center of Dallas, and in Ohio, at Little Theatre/Beck Center for the Arts, the Cleveland JCC, Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute and Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory.

Since relocating to Northeast Ohio to raise his family, Fred has worked at top theatres like the Beck Center for the Arts, Cain Park Summer Theatre, Dobama Theatre, Ensemble Theatre, the Halle Theatre, Caesar’s Forum, Karamu Performing Arts Theatre, and more.

RESUMÉ

Critics regularly cite the same directorial strengths in Fred's work: A dynamic visual aesthetic, talent at managing complicated projects, and most importantly, the ability to elicit powerful, three-dimensional performances from his actors.

Fred’s philosophy is simple: process over product. "There's only one way to deeply affect an audience: by finding the truth of the play, the truth of the characters. That's what we focus on in rehearsal. If we bring that to full expression, the audience will automatically connect. Dramas, comedies, musicals - they're just different ways to explore the human condition, which is universal to us all. Truth is the engine that drives great theatre. Once you have that, success, good reviews, and all the rest, will follow naturally."

"WHETHER IT'S A DEPRESSION-ERA FAMILY SAGA OR A SCREWBALL COMEDY, HE CAN.
